Questions:
· What do you think of the title? How does it relate to the story?
· What do you think of the store? What do the kids think of it? Is it a good setting for the story?
· Why are names so important? Why is it naming that makes the white people in the story so angry?
· What do you think about the pictures in the book? Are these the right moments to illustrate? Are they the most important ones? Or would you illustrate other incidents?
· What do you think of Jeremy? Why do you think he wants to be friends with Stacey?
· What do you think about the narrator? Do you think the story would change if she was a boy? Do you think it would change if she was the oldest or if she was white?
· What do you think about John? How do you think he feels about Tom Bee?
· What do you think about the way Tom Bee speaks to John? What do you think makes him stop calling him Mister Wallace?
· Is John acting of his own accord? Is he making a “free” choice when he shoots Tom Bee?
